1.15--Being Honest

Olive woke up early the next morning despite having been out the majority of the night.  She caught a lucky break in that her parents had apparently not noticed she was gone; or Sybil actually did cover for her.  Olive felt a pang of guilt over constantly pushing her sister into uncomfortable situations.  She would have to thank her later.

Besides that worry, Olive had another issue that occupied her mind lately; the fact that she was still suffering from severe nausea.  She kept trying to convince herself that it was just a food she ate that day, but it was getting more and more difficult for her to believe it.

"It can't be what I think it is. I only did it once, and we used protection. It can't be."

The worry was crippling and her room felt like it was caving in. She needed to get out.

She decided to go for a morning jog to clear her mind.  She could just play it off as practicing for an upcoming race; her mom and dad wouldn't be angry for breaking her grounding if it was for school, surely?

But no matter how far she ran, she couldn't escape from the reality that she had been attempting to deny the last couple of days.

Meanwhile back at the Dennis household, Sybil was contemplating her own crisis.  She desperately wanted to tell her parents about Hayley, but couldn't think up an appropriate way to broach the subject.

"What do I say? Mom, dad... I'm gay.  Oh and by the way, I'm dating the girl you've been letting sleep over at our house for the last 9 years." Sybil laughed when she thought of her mothers expression when she would remember that Hayley and Sybil shared a bed for a good week last time she slept over.

Sybil sat alone for longer than she realized, thinking of perspective conversation starters that would lead to her confession... but it was to no avail.  Accepting defeat, she resigned herself to thinking about her and Lee's future together.  After all, they would be adults in a matter of weeks. What would that mean for them?

While his parents were occupied with trying to figure out the enigma's that had become their teenage daughters lives, Snuffle was often left to his own devices.

Which often meant that he would play alone with his doll named Pi.  He had received Pi from a distant family member (that both Mya and Robert weren't aware of), and despite his mother's many protestations that the doll was creepy and should be thrown away, he had grown quite close to it. But not close enough for it to age-up with him, thank goodness. I did not want an IF plot-line so early in the legacy.

But Corri was oddly content being alone.  It meant that he could play how he pleased without any outside influences, particularly other kids who wanted to dictate the rules of the game.  No... Corri was the ruler in his own head and he didn't need anyone else to have fun.

As stipulated, the girls were freed from their persecution in one week and just in time for prom.

Sybil nervously asked Hayely if she would like to go with her.

"No, Sybil. I absolutely do not want to go to prom with my girlfriend." Hayley said, rolling her eyes.

Sybil laughed. "I still get nervous about this. Give me a break! My parents will have to think we're going as just friends for now though, if that is okay with you."

Hayley sighed. "Syb... when are you going to get over the fact that your parents won't care if you're gay and will love you regardless.  For goodness sakes, your mom has several gay friends!"

"I know. It's just different. If she doesn't agree with her friends life choices, she can separate herself from them at the end of day.  She can't do that with me.  I would probably stalk my mom if she tried."

"Well... you know me.  A real magnet for drama.  Don't worry Sybil, I'll play along and when you're ready to go public I'll still be there. Promise."

Sybil smiled. "I'm really lucky to have you."

"Damn straight. Now what are we wearing?!"

While Sybil was securing her date, Olive was working on hers.

"So good lookin'... who are you taking to prom?" Randolph asked as soon as they were alone.

"I don't know yet.  You see, there's this really cute boy at my school who I've been dying to ask, but I've been too nervous."

"Does this boy have a name?"

As Randy inched closer to her, Olive felt a sudden urge to come clean and tell him everything that she had been worrying over the last week. "No." She thought, "I don't want to freak him out unnecessarily.  I'll wait until I'm sure."

"Are you okay?" Randy asked, noticing Olive's hesitation.

She quickly pulled him into a kiss.

"Will you go to prom with me?" She asked as soon as they separated. Anything to get her nagging guilt to subside... or even just to distract her from it for a slight moment.  She knew how he would react if she told him; Randy had a reputation as the local ladies man and she would only push him away if she told the truth.

"Of course." He said, interrupting her thoughts.

And for the moment, Olive was content with the fact that at least she could enjoy one night before reality caught up with her.

The next night was the Prom and the girls excitedly got ready. Robert forced all of "his women" to take a picture before they left.  He got a little teary eyed thinking that his girls were now almost women... which sparked a mini-panic attack for Mya because she realized that they would be moving out someday.  No matter how tough they had been during their teenage years (and how many emotional variety shows that Robert had to endure), both Mya and Rob were going to miss them.

I'll have to explain what happened since I lost the pictures and was far too lazy to load up a previous save and play through it again. 0_0

Much to everyone's (except Olive's) surprise, Sybil had won Prom Queen.  What Syb didn't know was that Olive had used her connections to get her name on the ballot and then coerced anyone she could to vote for her.  Hayley had joined the scheme at the last minute hoping that this might help Sybil get over her social phobia.

Sybil took her crown graciously and then threw up backstage due to pure anxiety.  Both Olive and Hayley felt bad and after she had her "couple" dance with the King (Randolph), offered to escort her home early.  She refused and spent the rest of the dance tearing up the dance floor.  Apparently winning the crown gave her some sort of super-human dance skills (and confidence).

When they returned home, Sybil and Olive regaled their parents with their Prom night... Sybil even letting them know of her backstage vomit-fest after winning the crown.

Olive placed her Prom picture above her bed, a reminder that it was night's like these that made her excited for what the future brought... even if what it brought might be unexpected.

The Following Day...
Olive knew she couldn't keep her secret any longer. At this point, she was absolutely positive that she was pregnant. She was beginning to show and was convinced that her parents were beginning to suspect.

After a lengthy conversation, the girls decided to tell their parents the truth together.

Olive never let go of Sybil's hand through the whole process.

"Mom. Dad. There is something we need to tell you." They had rehearsed this together, convinced that it would make this conversation easier.  It didn't.

"I'm gay and dating Hayley." Sybil said, jumping right into it.

"And I'm... I'm pregnant."

Mya and Robert stood stunned into silence for a moment, before Mya finally responded.

"How long have you two been keeping this from us?"

"I've been dating Hayley since the night of the party..."

"...and I just got confirmation about being pregnant.  I've been worried about it for a little over a week now though."

"But why didn't you girls tell us?" Robert emphasized.  He was surprised by their news, but hurt that they felt they needed to hide it.  He and Mya had always prided themselves on running an open household... apparently their ego was incorrect.

"We were both afraid." Olive said sheepishly.  "I didn't want you to be disappointed in me... or stop loving me."

Robert immediately pulled Olive into a hug. "We will never stop loving you two."

"And let's get a few things straight..." Mya added, "Sybil, since when have we ever gave you the impression that we are adverse to homosexuals in this family? That's right, never.  There is nothing wrong with being gay and me and your father accept you no matter what... and Olive, I won't say that I'm not hurt by your current situation, but you are our daughter and your place is here with us during this.  We will accept whatever decision you make."

"I want to keep it." Olive said suddenly. "I don't want to put it up. It's my baby and it's my responsibility."

"What about the father?" Robert asked, perhaps much more sternly than he intended.

"I haven't told him yet." Olive felt ridiculous saying it out loud. How could you keep something like this from someone?

"Well let's worry about that in the coming days." Mya said, sensing Robert's apprehension over who the father could be.  He had his suspicions that it was that Sargaent boy that she had attended Prom with (and they had only met once for cripes sake!), but now was not the time to openly play the guessing game.

Once the girls had gone back to their room, Mya was finally alone with Robert to vent her fears.

"What if Olive decides to drop out of school? She better not! Oh God. Robert, what kind of life will she have as a teenage mother?!"

"Let's take one thing at a time." Robert said, hoping to calm both himself and Mya. In response to Mya's scoff, he added "Everything will be fine.  We will all be fine."

And as the days passed and Olive's belly began to noticeably grow, she knew she would have to be honest with more than just her family.

-------------------------------------------
Mya is at Level 9 of her career (Assistant Principal) and has achieved her LTW (the Tinkerer)... she is almost done.  She ages up kind of soon'ish... so at least most of her stuff is out of the way.  Rob is at Level 9 of his career as well (Flatfooted Investigation Specialist) and I found out that the Yomoshoto Invasion is a promotion perk when you get to level 8.  He reached level 10 of logic... so now it's just getting him to the top of his career. I still have the change of scenery requirement as well (almost there!).

Some picture spam:
Snuffle manages to make drinking a juice box look cute.

Snuffle and Pi. I *love* the faces he makes.

I'm not really sure what Randy is doing here.

Aaaand the normal, everyday Sybil freak-out.

  1. I love Mya's expression when the girls come out with the news.
Mya & Robert are such great parents. If more parents were like them, the world would be so less fucked up.

  2. I'm definitely shooting for "awesome parents" this generation so I'm glad you like them!

Things only get hairier from here, so they are certainly going to need each other for support!

  3. I wish my parents were like Mya and Robert...

I'm glad Olive has some support during all this, and I'm glad Syb came clean and her parents were alright with it. Coming out never seems like an easy thing, but the hardest people to tell are your parents. I like her. ^^

  5. The look on the parents faces! Wow, this is like the third or fourth teenage pregnancy in the last two weeks with all of us!

  6. @Ana: Everyone is catching the pregnant! Lol. I'm just going to go with the cliche and say "great mind think alike." ; )

  7. I am in love with your legacy Giga. Mya and Robert really are amazing parents, and ROFL at the looks on their faces after the girls' announcements. Mya especially.

Olive is gorgeous, btw. She'll make a fun heir.

  8. The coward trait has the BEST idles, I swear. Anytime I write a story that requires Mya to be surprised, I just have let her stand around a while to make that glorious face!

And Olive is gorgeous! Totally unexpected. : )

  9. Robert and Mya definitely made the right call on that one. I never understood how parents could just turn away their kids for making a mistake or loving a person who is the same gender as them. I'm glad to know Olive and Syb will never experience that, though. :)
